Town & Country Veterinary Hospital strives to maintain a family-focused atmosphere. We continue to provide the honest, high quality, and compassionate veterinary services the community has come to expect over the past 70 years.
History of the Practice
Town & Country Veterinary Hospital was established by Nancy Riser, V.M.D. “Doc”, as she was affectionately known in the community, was one of the first female veterinarians in the country, graduating from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Veterinary Medicine in 1944. Her practice began in Upper Darby, moving to Glen Riddle, PA, in 1954. She lived in what is now called the Sage Farmhouse and transformed the farm into her veterinary campus. She was an expert with goats, operated a goat dairy, and treated a variety of farm and companion animals.
In 1987, Laura Madara, V.M.D. (Penn Vet Class of 1984), purchased Dr. Riser’s practice and named it Town and Country Veterinary Hospital. In the early years, Dr. Madara raised her children at the practice while continuing to see clients and patients, including goats.
In 1998, Dr. Madara designed and constructed the new hospital to allow for more services in an expanded facility, literally moving just up the street to its current location in Media and Aston area. The practice and her family continued to flourish. She enjoyed providing personalized veterinary care to the community for over 30 years.
In 2017, Yoon Chay, V.M.D. (Penn Vet Class of 2012) and his wife, Lauren Aldinger, V.M.D. (Penn Vet Class of 2012) assumed ownership of Town and Country Veterinary Hospital to continue the legacy of excellent veterinary medicine. This husband and wife team of veterinarians also plan on raising their family as an integral part of the practice.

Dr. Yoon Chay, VMD
Dr. Chay was born in South Korea and came to the United States when he was 14 years old to further his education. He has been living in the U.S. since and become a proud citizen. He completed his undergraduate degree in economics at Yale University. After working at a consulting firm in New York, Dr. Chay decided to follow his life-long dream to become a veterinarian. He attended the University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine after which he completed an internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital. He has worked for various small animal practices in Delaware and Pennsylvania prior to purchasing Town and Country Veterinary Hospital as well as operating his own housecall veterinary service. He lives in Delaware with his wife who is also a veterinarian, their daughter, Zuni the dog (a stray from New Mexico) , and Yoshi, a Persian cat.

Veterinary Acupuncture
While acupuncture has roots in ancient Chinese medicine, Dr. Chay is certified to perform veterinary acupuncture in a modern, evidenced-based approach. Although acupuncture may not be right for every pet, it is minimally invasive and often a very rewarding therapy for pets that may not be able to tolerate standard treatment protocols and surgery.
